Day 7-8
Day 7 - Left Cortez, Colorado for Monument Valley. We stopped at The 4 Corners on the way.

All the kids are standing on the point where the 4 states of Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico meet. They tasted their first Indian Frybread.

We took a guided tour with a Native American Navajo of Monument Valley. We visited with a Navajo woman in her Hogan and she showed us how they make yarn, weave rugs, braid traditional hair styles and grind corn into meal for cooking/baking. The surroundings may look familiar if you're a movie buff expecially if you like John Wayne.
Day 8 - We left Monument Valley for the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We stopped to learn more about the Navajo Code Talkers (they met one at the Cultural Center in Cortez) at an exhibit in Burger King. Only in America can you stop at a fast food restaruent to visit a museum!

We also stopped at the Navajo Bridge which crosses the Colorado River before it enters the Grand Canyon.

You can see some of the glorious views of the Grand Canyon from Bright Angel Point

and the North Rim Lodge.

While on the walk we searched for seashell fossils at over 8,000 feet above sea level. It is very hard for the kids to phathom that these shells were once found on the bottom of the ocean.
