Session II - Days 5 & 6

We left Moab for Bluff (in the four corners region) and explored Hovenweep (which means "Deserted Valley" National Monument.

We went for a dip in a local spring fed pond with a "country version of a diving board".  Had a great view from the pond!

Back at the campground the campers met some kids from Texas and had a small dance party while supper was prepared.

We awoke early to watch the sunrise over Valley of the Gods and saw it's version of "Balanced Rock" and "Lady in a Bathtub".

We went 4-wheeling up the Moki Dugway (hand dug road) to the top of a mesa and viewed from Mulley Point Monument Valley (of John Wayne cowboy movie fame) and saw the multi-colored Vermillion Cliffs which run from there all the way to the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

We stopped at the Navajo Bridge to view the mighty Colorado River on our way to Jacob Lake at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Everyone enjoyed trading in the desert heat (100 degrees) for cooler air (high 60's), the smell of Ponderosa Pine trees and a real campfire. Don't forget to ask the kids what they smell like? Tomorrow we'll be hiking below the Rim of the Grand Canyon via the North Kaibab Trail to see all of the Canyon's Glory.
